About Hoskote Bangalore

Hoskote is an old town and taluk on the eastern side of Bangalore, placed directly on the NH-75 growth corridor towards Kolar and Chennai. It is often grouped under East Bangalore in property searches, but administratively Hoskote is a separate City Municipal Council and taluk in Bengaluru North district, formerly Bengaluru Rural district. Its PIN code is 562114. Whitefield is about 15.2 km by road, Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station is about 12.3 km, and Kempegowda International Airport is about 27.5 km by road.

Hoskote is much bigger than the town seen along Old Madras Road. Hoskote taluk covers five hoblis – Kasaba, Anugondanahalli, Jadigenahalli, Sulibele and Nandagudi – with the official village list running to 294 villages. The area is important for three different reasons today. It has a large 808-acre lake and wetland, a long manufacturing base led by companies such as Volvo, and a road network where NH-75, the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway side and the Satellite Town Ring Road come together. This mix of an old town, villages, industry and new infrastructure explains why Hoskote is changing faster than a normal outer-Bangalore suburb.

Where Exactly is Hoskote in Bangalore?

Hoskote lies east of Bangalore after KR Puram, Medahalli and Kattamanallur on the NH-75 route. Whitefield lies to its west and south-west, while Kolar is further east. This position gives Hoskote two different connections to Bangalore. Old Madras Road leads towards KR Puram, while Whitefield-Hoskote Road gives access towards Kadugodi and Whitefield.

There is also an important difference between Hoskote town and Hoskote taluk. Hoskote town is the urban centre around the bus stand, market, government offices and NH-75. The taluk spreads much farther and includes areas such as Sulibele, Nandagudi, Jadigenahalli and Anugondanahalli. This is why a property advertised as being “in Hoskote” can sometimes be many kilometres away from Hoskote town.

What is Hoskote Famous For?

Hoskote is famous for Hoskote Lake, early-morning dum biryani, its old fort history and its industrial belt. The town has become well known among Bangalore food lovers for biryani served before sunrise, with visitors travelling from the city early in the morning just for the meal.

The name Hoskote itself comes from the Kannada words Hosa, meaning new, and Kote, meaning fort. A fort was built here in 1595 by Timme Gowda of Sugatur. The settlement later developed around the fort and the surrounding agricultural land.

Hoskote Lake – More Than a Local Landmark

Hoskote Lake is one of the strongest natural features of the area and deserves more attention than a simple mention in a FAQ. The lake spreads over about 808 acres. Karnataka's district administration describes it as an important freshwater wetland and records more than 266 bird species at the lake.

The biodiversity goes beyond birds. Official records mention 10 mammal species, 19 reptile species, 17 frog species, 33 butterfly species, six dragonfly species and around 67 plant species around the lake. Birds recorded here include painted storks, spot-billed pelicans, ducks, egrets and herons. This makes Hoskote Lake an ecological landmark as well as a weekend birdwatching spot.

History of Hoskote

Hoskote's recorded fort history goes back to 1595, when Timme Gowda, chief of Sugatur, built a fort here. The land around the fort was fertile and supported farming, which helped the settlement grow beyond its original military role.

Hoskote later came under different rulers and also became part of the conflicts around Mysore. The Battle of Ooscota was fought here during the First Anglo-Mysore War in August 1768. For much of the period after that, farming and trade remained important because the town sat on the old route between Bangalore and Kolar.

Hoskote Connectivity

Hoskote's road position is one of the biggest reasons for its present growth. NH-75, commonly called Old Madras Road on the Bangalore side, provides the main route towards KR Puram and the city. Whitefield-Hoskote Road links the town with Kadugodi and Whitefield.

Hoskote is also becoming a major outer-road junction. The Satellite Town Ring Road is 288 km long in total, including 243 km in Karnataka and 45 km in Tamil Nadu. A 144 km section linking Dobbaspet, Hoskote and Hosur is expected to become operational by the end of November 2026. This route is designed to move inter-city and freight traffic around Bangalore instead of through the city.

Hoskote Metro, Railway and Airport Connectivity

Hoskote does not have an operational Namma Metro station as of August 2026. Whitefield (Kadugodi) on the Purple Line is one of the nearest useful stations, about 12.3 km by road from Hoskote. Direct bus services also operate between the Hoskote side and Kadugodi. A separate Metro connection to Hoskote is being studied. BMRCL is examining a 16 km Purple Line extension from KR Pura to Hoskote. The study is looking at traffic, station locations, cost and technical feasibility. Possible stops reported in the study include Battarahalli, Medahalli, Avalahalli, Budigere Cross, Kattamanallur Gate, Hoskote Toll Plaza and central Hoskote. It is still a feasibility proposal, not an approved construction project. Kempegowda International Airport is about 27.5 km by road from Hoskote. The northern road network through the Budigere side gives Hoskote a shorter airport connection than many parts of central and south Bangalore.

Distances can vary slightly based on the starting point inside Hoskote and the road used.

Industry and Employment in Hoskote

Hoskote's economy is not dependent only on Whitefield. The town has its own manufacturing and logistics base. Volvo Group operates a major production facility at Hosakote. The company says the plant has assembled more than 25,000 trucks since inception. The site includes truck assembly, cab manufacturing, welding, painting, axle assembly, a remanufacturing unit and a distribution centre.

The Volvo distribution centre alone covers about 9,000 sq metres, stocks close to 38,000 parts and handles around 340,000 order lines a year. This gives a clearer idea of the scale of industrial activity already present in Hoskote.

Hoskote is also growing as a warehousing location. In February 2026, Prozo added two fulfilment centres of 75,000 sq ft and 76,000 sq ft, adding about 1.5 lakh sq ft of new logistics space in Hoskote. The company linked the location choice to access to industrial zones and urban markets.

Another long-term development is planned at Tavarekere near the Hoskote-Kolar belt. Karnataka Digital Economy Mission has outlined a 300-acre data centre park under the state's Data Centre Policy 2022-27. This could add a different type of employment base to an area already known for manufacturing and logistics.

A Lesser-Known Side of Hoskote

Hoskote is not only about factories and new housing. Traditional work still exists across the taluk. Karnataka district records show 47 handlooms and 76 people involved in weaving activities in Hoskote taluk. Villages including Nelavagilu, Narayanakere and D Hosahalli are mentioned among its traditional weaving areas.

This mix is important when understanding Hoskote. The wider taluk still contains agriculture, villages and traditional occupations, while the highway side is becoming more urban, industrial and logistics-led.

Real Estate in Hoskote 2026

Hoskote's property market cannot be explained with one average rate. The town includes old houses, local layouts, plotted land, new apartment projects and premium developments closer to the Whitefield-Hoskote corridor.

Current portals show how wide the range is. 99acres lists Hoskote apartment asking prices at roughly ₹6,050 to ₹14,000 per sq ft, while Housing.com's broader locality dataset shows an average of around ₹4,355 per sq ft because it includes a wider mix of property types and locations.

For buyers, the micro-location matters more than the town average. A newer apartment closer to Whitefield, NH-75 or a major branded township may cost much more than an older property deeper inside Hoskote town or one of the surrounding villages.

Major Upcoming Brigade developments Brigade Granada and Hoskote:

One of the major upcoming Brigade developments connected to the Hoskote growth corridor is Brigade Granada. The project is not inside Hoskote town. It is located in the Seegahalli- Sannatammanahalli belt on the Whitefield side and is about 5.9 km from Hoskote. The township covers about 40 acres and sits around 750 metres from NH-75.

This location gives Brigade Granada a real connection with both sides of East Bangalore. Whitefield and ITPL form the main IT employment side, while Hoskote adds access to manufacturing, logistics, highways and the wider eastern growth belt. This is a stronger connection than simply calling the project a “Hoskote project.”

Latest Hoskote News and Updates 2026

• 9 August 2026: Hoskote continued to gain importance as a warehousing micro-market in East Bangalore as logistics demand remained strong across the eastern corridor.
• 5 August 2026: Around 144 km of STRR between Dobbaspet, Hoskote and Hosur was reported to be on track for operation by the end of November 2026.
• 27 February 2026: Karnataka approved the Cauvery Stage VI project, estimated at around ₹7,000 crore. Hoskote is one of eight urban local bodies included in the planned water-supply expansion, which is expected to benefit around 30 lakh people across the covered areas.
• 24 February 2026: Prozo opened two Hoskote fulfilment centres covering a combined 1.51 lakh sq ft, strengthening the town's logistics base.
• 28 January 2026: BMRCL's feasibility study for a 16 km KR Pura-Hoskote Metro corridor became public. The route remains under study and has not entered construction.

Hoskote Future Outlook

Hoskote's next stage of development is not based on one proposed project. Several different changes are happening at the same time. STRR is strengthening regional road movement. The Bengaluru-Chennai corridor improves access towards the east. Cauvery Stage VI is planned to address future water demand. Warehousing is already expanding, while the proposed data-centre park could bring another employment segment.

The Metro is the least certain part of this picture. A Hoskote extension is being studied, but there is no construction schedule yet. Buyers and residents should therefore judge Hoskote on the roads, jobs and facilities that already exist, rather than pricing the area only on a future Metro promise.
