About Whitefield
Whitefield is a major IT, business and residential hub in East Bengaluru with PIN code 560066. Its history goes back to 1882, when Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar X granted about 3,900 acres for an Anglo-Indian and Eurasian settlement. Today, Whitefield is home to International Tech Park Bangalore (ITPB), a 69-acre integrated business park with offices, retail, a hotel and other facilities.
Whitefield also has strong Metro and rail access in 2026. The Purple Line connects Whitefield (Kadugodi) with the rest of the operational east-west Metro corridor. At the same time, the ₹35-crore Hope Farm underpass is under construction, while the 19-km Cantonment–Whitefield railway quadrupling project is about 75% complete and has a revised March 2027 target. These projects are important because they address two of Whitefield's main issues: road congestion and rail capacity.
Where is Whitefield in Bangalore?
Whitefield is in East Bengaluru and forms one of the city's main technology and residential zones. The core Whitefield postal area uses PIN 560066. Under Bengaluru's new civic structure, Whitefield is listed as Ward 38 of Bengaluru East City Corporation under the Greater Bengaluru Authority.
The main locality is built around Whitefield Main Road, ITPL Main Road, EPIP, Hope Farm and the Kadugodi side. Property advertisements often use “Whitefield” for a much wider eastern belt, so buyers should always check the exact locality and PIN code instead of relying only on the marketing address.
Whitefield History
Whitefield was established in 1882 as an agricultural settlement for Anglo-Indians and Eurasians. Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar X granted about 3,900 acres for the settlement. The locality was associated with David Emmanuel Starkenburgh White, from whom the name Whitefield developed.
Whitefield remained a small settlement for many decades. Its major change came during the growth of Bengaluru's technology industry in the late 1990s. ITPB and the EPIP business belt changed the area from an outer settlement into one of Bengaluru's major employment centres.
What is Whitefield Famous For?
Whitefield is famous mainly for its IT parks, large office campuses, Metro access and residential communities. International Tech Park Bangalore is one of its strongest employment anchors. CapitaLand states that ITPB covers 69 acres and operates as an integrated development with office space, retail, a hotel and other amenities.
Whitefield is also known for the EPIP business zone and the large number of technology, engineering and service companies based across the wider IT corridor. This employment base supports demand for apartments, rental homes, hotels, hospitals, schools and shopping centres.
Whitefield Metro Connectivity
Whitefield is directly served by the Purple Line of Namma Metro. Whitefield (Kadugodi) is the eastern terminal on the operational line, giving direct Metro travel towards KR Puram, MG Road, Majestic and the western side of Bengaluru.
This is a major advantage compared with outer East Bengaluru locations that still depend mainly on road travel. Metro access is strongest around Kadugodi, Pattandur Agrahara, ITPL and the established Whitefield side.
Whitefield Road Connectivity
The main roads serving Whitefield include Whitefield Main Road, ITPL Main Road, Varthur Road and the routes towards KR Puram, Mahadevapura, Kadugodi and Hoskote. Hope Farm is one of the busiest junctions because traffic from Whitefield, Kadugodi, ITPL and the surrounding residential belt meets here.
Work finally started on the Hope Farm underpass in May 2026 after years of delay. The project costs about ₹35 crore and includes a roughly 300-metre grade separator for Whitefield–Kadugodi traffic. The civic body gave the work an initial target of about 200 days.
Whitefield Railway Station
Whitefield Railway Station provides another travel option for the eastern IT corridor. A major rail capacity project is now under way between Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield. The 19-km quadrupling work was about 75% complete in 2026, with completion pushed to March 2027.
The project cost has increased to about ₹664.5 crore. Work also includes changes at Whitefield, KR Puram and Baiyappanahalli stations. Once completed, the additional tracks are expected to support more train services on this busy corridor.
Whitefield IT Parks and Employment Hubs
International Tech Park Bangalore is the best-known technology campus in Whitefield. It covers 69 acres and remains fully operational. The wider Whitefield employment market also includes the EPIP zone and several office developments along ITPL Main Road and surrounding areas.
The employment base is still expanding. In 2025, Microchip Technology bought about 1.72 lakh sq. ft. of office space in the EPIP Zone for ₹176 crore. This is one recent example of continued corporate demand in Whitefield.
Whitefield Property Rates 2026
Whitefield property rates are much higher than the ₹10,100 per sq. ft. figure used in the old page. Current Magicbricks data shows an average multistorey apartment rate of about ₹13,375 per sq. ft. The portal shows a broad locality band from about ₹10,164 to ₹16,587 per sq. ft.
| Property Market Indicator | August 2026 Reference |
| Average apartment rate | ₹13,375/sq. ft. |
| Lower locality rate | ₹10,164/sq. ft. |
| Upper locality rate | ₹16,587/sq. ft. |
These are portal-based market rates, not one fixed transaction value. Prices change with the project, age, Metro distance, builder, road access and apartment size.
Schools, Hospitals and Malls in Whitefield
Whitefield has developed a large social-infrastructure network because it is both an employment and residential hub. Schools include The Deens Academy, Whitefield Global School and Vydehi School of Excellence. Major healthcare options include Manipal Hospital Whitefield, Aster Whitefield and the Sri Sathya Sai healthcare campus. Shopping choices include Park Square, Nexus Shantiniketan and Nexus Whitefield, with Phoenix Marketcity and VR Bengaluru in the wider Mahadevapura retail belt.
For a homebuyer, the useful measure is the actual distance from the selected apartment to these facilities. A project marketed as “Whitefield” can still be several kilometres from the core ITPL and Metro belt.
Whitefield Latest Infrastructure Updates 2026
Three current projects matter most for Whitefield in 2026. First, the Hope Farm underpass is now under construction. Second, the Cantonment–Whitefield rail quadrupling project is targeting March 2027. Third, K-RIDE's Bengaluru Suburban Rail plan includes the Parijaata corridor from Kengeri to Whitefield. The official plan gives this route a length of 35.52 km with nine stations.
The Blue Line should be described carefully. It does not run through Whitefield itself. The future line connects through KR Puram, where Whitefield passengers could interchange from the Purple Line. As of August 2026, major sections of the Blue Line are still under development.
Whitefield Real Estate Growth in 2026
Developer activity is still moving east from established Whitefield. In August 2026, Sumadhura Group announced a ₹3,500-crore residential development across 17 acres in the Whitefield–Kannamangala corridor. This shows that new housing supply is moving towards the eastern edge as established Whitefield becomes denser and more expensive. This also means buyers should separate core Whitefield from Kadugodi, Kannamangala, Sannatammanahalli and Hoskote-side projects. They can share the same employment corridor without being the same locality.
Brigade Granada and Whitefield
Brigade Granada is not located inside Whitefield. It is a 40-acre mixed-use township at Sannatammanahalli on the eastern Whitefield–Hoskote corridor. Whitefield is about 9.3 km away, ITPL about 9.9 km away, Whitefield Railway Station about 6.1 km away and Kadugodi Tree Park Metro about 8.4 km away.
Its Whitefield connection is therefore based on commute access to the IT and Metro belt. This is more accurate than describing Brigade Granada itself as a Whitefield project.
Is Whitefield a Good Place to Live?
Whitefield suits people who work in the local IT and business belt and want Metro, hospitals, schools, malls and offices within the same part of Bengaluru. The strongest advantage is that the area no longer depends only on road travel because the Purple Line and railway both serve the locality.
The main drawback is traffic. Hope Farm remains a major bottleneck while the new underpass is being built, and construction diversions can add delays. Property prices are also well above many outer East Bengaluru areas.
