Whitefield has an unusual mix of old history and modern business growth. It began as a planned Anglo-Indian settlement in 1882. Today, it is one of Bangalore’s largest IT and housing markets. It has direct Metro, road and rail links, along with large schools, hospitals, malls and office parks.

One important point is that Whitefield and Kadugodi are not the same postal area. Whitefield uses PIN 560066, while Kadugodi uses 560067. Many property ads use “Whitefield” for a much wider part of East Bangalore, so the exact address should always be checked.

Whitefield is on the eastern side of Bangalore in Bengaluru Urban district. The main area is built around the old Whitefield settlement, Whitefield Main Road, ITPL Main Road, Hope Farm and the EPIP business belt. It lies east of KR Puram and Mahadevapura and forms one of the main job and housing zones of East Bangalore.

Whitefield is not one small point on a map. A trip to ITPB can differ from a trip to Hope Farm, Kadugodi or Whitefield Railway Station. The same difference applies to home prices, rent and Metro access. For this reason, the exact road, PIN code and nearby landmark are more useful than a broad “Whitefield” address.

Whitefield Is in Which District?

Whitefield is in Bengaluru Urban district, Karnataka. It falls on the eastern side of the Bangalore city region. Under the 2026 city setup, Whitefield is part of Bengaluru East City Corporation, which operates under the Greater Bengaluru Authority.

Older property and civic papers may still use the Mahadevapura Zone name. That was part of the earlier BBMP system. Under the new setup, Whitefield is Ward 38 and remains within the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency.

Which Zone Is Whitefield?

In 2026, Whitefield comes under Bengaluru East City Corporation. It is Ward 38 in the new city system. The Greater Bengaluru Authority now oversees five city corporations across Bangalore.

The older Mahadevapura Zone name still appears in past BBMP tax papers and property records. So, both terms may be seen in older documents. For current civic checks, the latest GBA ward and city-corporation map should be used.

Whitefield Bangalore Pincode

The main Whitefield Bangalore PIN code is 560066. India Post lists Whitefield under this code. Kadugodi, which lies close to Whitefield, uses PIN 560067. Nearby areas such as Hoodi and Varthur can use different postal codes.

This matters for homebuyers. A project may be advertised as “Whitefield” even when its legal address is in another nearby area. The registered address, PIN code and survey location should match the actual site.

Core Whitefield is built around the old Whitefield settlement, Whitefield Main Road, Hope Farm and the ITPL-EPIP belt. Nallurhalli, Pattandur Agrahara and Hagadur are closely linked to the same job and housing market. These areas share Metro, office and road access with Whitefield.

The wider Whitefield market often includes Kadugodi, Hoodi, Brookefield, Channasandra and Varthur. These places are close to Whitefield, but they should not all be treated as one legal area. Kadugodi has its own PIN code, while Varthur and Hoodi have separate civic identities.

This difference becomes important when comparing two homes. A flat near ITPL or Nallurhalli Metro can have very different travel time and price from a project on the Hoskote side that is marketed under the wider Whitefield name.

Whitefield distance changes with the starting point and the exact destination inside the area. From MG Road, Whitefield is about 17.4 km by road. Majestic is around 22.1 km away. KR Puram is about 9.8 km away, while Kempegowda International Airport is about 37.1 km from the main Whitefield area.

A common road route from central Bangalore runs through Old Madras Road, KR Puram and the ITPL side before reaching Whitefield. During office peak hours, the Purple Line can be more reliable because it avoids road delays around KR Puram, Hoodi and other busy junctions.

Whitefield’s modern history began in 1882. Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar granted about 3,900 acres to the Eurasian and Anglo-Indian Association for a new settlement. David Emmanuel Starkenburg White was closely involved in the group that developed the colony. The settlement later took the name Whitefield from him.

For many decades, Whitefield remained a quiet and low-density settlement. That changed during the 1990s when ITPB and the EPIP zone began to grow. Offices brought jobs, followed by new homes, hospitals, schools, malls and better roads.

Whitefield is not the oldest place in Bangalore. Begur has a much older written record. An inscription from around 890 CE found near the Nageshvara temple refers to a battle at Bengaluru and is one of the earliest known written references to the city.

Whitefield is famous mainly for its IT parks, office jobs and large housing market. ITPB is the best-known job hub and covers 69 acres. It has offices, retail space, a hotel and other services within the same site. The nearby EPIP belt adds more IT, engineering and service-sector jobs.

Whitefield is also known for the Purple Line Metro, large apartment communities and a strong daily-use network. Schools, hospitals and malls are spread across the main IT and housing belt. Its older Anglo-Indian history also gives Whitefield a different background from newer Bangalore tech areas.

ITPB remains the main technology landmark in Whitefield. The 69-acre park is on Whitefield Road and has been a major part of the area’s growth as an IT hub. The wider office market also includes the EPIP belt and private business parks along ITPL Main Road and nearby roads.

The wider Whitefield office belt hosts software, engineering, consulting, finance and product firms. Large employers in the area include companies from the IBM, SAP, Dell, Volvo, ABB and Mphasis ecosystem. This strong job base supports both home sales and rent across Whitefield, Kadugodi, Hoodi and nearby areas.

Whitefield has three main travel options: Metro, road and railway. The Purple Line directly serves the Whitefield-Kadugodi side. It connects the area with KR Puram, MG Road, Majestic and western Bangalore. This has reduced the need for road-only travel for many office workers.

Road travel is still important for ITPL, EPIP, Varthur and homes that are not close to a Metro station. Whitefield Main Road, ITPL Main Road and Varthur Road carry a large share of local traffic. Hope Farm is one of the busiest junctions because traffic from Whitefield, Kadugodi, ITPL and nearby housing areas meets there.

Whitefield Metro Connectivity

Whitefield is served by the operational Purple Line. Whitefield (Kadugodi) is at the eastern end of the line. Other stations in the wider Whitefield belt give access to ITPL, Pattandur Agrahara and nearby office areas.

A major benefit of the line is direct travel towards KR Puram, MG Road and Majestic. A commuter travelling from Whitefield to central Bangalore does not need to depend only on road traffic.

Whitefield Railway Station is an important rail stop in East Bangalore and uses station code WFD. It is separate from Whitefield Metro station, so travellers should check whether their trip needs the railway station or the Metro station before starting.

Rail capacity is also being expanded. The 19-km Bangalore Cantonment–Whitefield quadrupling work was about 75% complete in 2026. The cost had risen to about ₹664.5 crore, and the revised target was March 2027. Work includes Whitefield, KR Puram and Baiyappanahalli stations.

The extra tracks are expected to allow more local train services on the eastern rail route. This will matter for workers who travel between Whitefield and other parts of Bangalore by suburban rail.

Yes. Whitefield is one of the costlier housing markets in East Bangalore, mainly in established areas near Metro stations and large office hubs. Mid-2026 market references placed average apartment asking rates at roughly ₹12,700 to ₹13,400 per sq. ft. Whitefield Main Road was around ₹12,690 per sq. ft., while the wider Whitefield–Hoskote Road belt was lower at around ₹10,574 per sq. ft.

Rent also varies widely. September 2026 listings show many 2 BHK homes around ₹35,000 to ₹65,000 per month. Three-bedroom homes can range from about ₹40,000 in simpler buildings to ₹80,000 or more in premium gated projects. A few high-end homes go above this range.

Whitefield costs more because the area has a large local job base, direct Metro access and mature social infrastructure. Core Whitefield also has less open land than outer East Bangalore. Nearby areas may offer lower prices, but buyers should not compare them with core Whitefield without checking the exact location.

Whitefield is a good place to live for people who work in East Bangalore. The area combines local jobs, Metro access, railway service, schools, hospitals and malls. Many daily needs can be met without travelling to central Bangalore.

The Purple Line is one of Whitefield’s biggest advantages. It gives direct access to KR Puram, MG Road and Majestic. Whitefield Railway Station adds another option for local and regional trips. Families also have several schools and large hospitals within the same part of the city.

The main drawback is traffic. Hope Farm, ITPL Main Road and several internal roads can slow down during office peaks. Home prices and rents are also high in established pockets. Whitefield suits households whose work and regular travel are mainly in East Bangalore. Daily trips to far west or south Bangalore can take much longer.

Whitefield has a mature school network. Whitefield Global School is a CBSE senior secondary school near Hope Farm. Vydehi School of Excellence is in the EPIP area and is also CBSE affiliated. These schools sit close to the main Whitefield job and housing belt.

Healthcare is another strong point. Manipal Hospital Whitefield is on ITPL Main Road and has a 284-bed facility. Aster Whitefield is in the Sadaramangala–ITPL area and offers care across many major fields. The Sri Sathya Sai healthcare campus is another well-known medical centre in the wider Whitefield area.

Whitefield also has major shopping centres. Nexus Whitefield has about 0.3 million sq. ft. of leasable area and more than 110 stores. Nexus Shantiniketan has about 0.6 million sq. ft. and more than 160 stores. Park Square at ITPB is another established choice for office workers and local residents.

The Hope Farm underpass is one of the most important road works in Whitefield in 2026. Work began in May after years of delay. The project costs about ₹35 crore and has a target of roughly 200 days. It is designed to reduce traffic where Whitefield, Kadugodi and ITPL routes meet.

Rail work is also moving ahead. The Cantonment–Whitefield quadrupling project was about 75% complete in 2026 and now has a March 2027 target. The extra tracks should increase rail capacity on one of East Bangalore’s busiest routes.

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail plan also includes the Parijaata corridor from Kengeri to Whitefield. K-RIDE lists the route at 35.52 km with nine stations. It is a future rail project and should not be confused with the Purple Line, which already serves Whitefield.

Whitefield’s housing market now extends beyond the older ITPL and Hope Farm belt towards Kadugodi, Seegahalli and the Whitefield–Hoskote Road corridor. These eastern areas are seeing new residential development because they remain connected to Whitefield’s large employment base while offering more land for new townships. Access to NH 75, Whitefield Railway Station, Kadugodi and the wider ITPL business zone also supports daily travel from this side of East Bangalore.

Brigade Granada is one such upcoming township in Seegahalli, along the Whitefield–Kadugodi side of East Bangalore. The 40-acre project is planned with 14 residential towers, around 2,000 apartments and 1, 2, 3 and 4 BHK homes. Its location is relevant to Whitefield-based buyers because the project connects with the established IT and employment corridor through the Whitefield–Kadugodi road network and NH 75.
