What Does Kadugodi Mean in English?

The meaning becomes clear when the original Kannada name is divided into two parts.

Kadugodi is not named after a person, company or modern landmark. Its name comes from the natural setting and the old temple around which the village grew.

Kadugudi is the older and more direct form of the name. In Kannada, words can change slightly when they are joined and used in daily speech. This helped the spelling and sound move from Kadugudi to Kadugodi.

Both names refer to the same place. Kadugodi is now the common English spelling used in postal addresses, maps, property records and public transport. Kadugudi may still appear in old records, local speech and historic references.

The local PIN code is 560067. A person writing a current address should use the official spelling shown in the property document or postal record. The older spelling should be kept when quoting an inscription or historic source.

The temple linked to the name is the Kashi Vishveshwar Temple. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and stands in the old village area. The Cholas are believed to have given land for the temple. Its design also shows some influence from the earlier Ganga period.

Temple inscriptions refer to the deity as Rajadhi Raja Bhangisvaram. Local accounts say the original Shiva linga was later lost or stolen. A new linga was then brought from Varanasi. This link with Kashi explains the present Kashi Vishveshwar name.

The temple was not the only old feature in the area. A Tamil inscription dated to 1043 CE records work linked to Pattandur Lake. It also mentions other local temples. These records show that worship, farming and water storage shaped early Kadugodi.

Kadugodi and Whitefield are not the same locality. Kadugodi is an older settlement on the eastern side of Whitefield. Their central areas are about 3 km apart. Kadugodi uses PIN 560067, while much of Whitefield uses PIN 560066.

The names are often joined because they share transport links. Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station is located on the Kadugodi side. Whitefield Railway Station is also in this belt. Property advertisements may therefore use Whitefield–Kadugodi, even when the address falls within Kadugodi.

This modern naming can hide the age of Kadugodi. Whitefield grew as a planned settlement much later. Kadugodi already had a temple, lake system and village community during the Chola period.

The name reflects what Kadugodi once looked like. It began as a village with forest land, farms, temples and water bodies. The railway, which reached the area in the 19th century, slowly improved travel. Whitefield’s IT growth later brought apartments, shops and schools.

The opening of the Purple Line Metro in 2023 changed the area again. Kadugodi now has major roads, apartment communities and busy transport points. Yet its old name still keeps the memory of the forest and temple alive.

Brigade Granada is planned at Seegehalli–Sannatammanahalli, off Whitefield–Hoskote Road. It is not inside the old Kadugodi village. However, the site falls within the wider Kadugodi–Hoskote growth corridor and uses PIN 560067.

The project is about 6.1 km from Whitefield Railway Station and 8.4 km from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station. Using Kadugodi as a wider location reference can help buyers understand the travel corridor. The final legal address must still match the Karnataka RERA record after approval.
