Vastu for Apartments: A Guide for Home Buyers

Vastu for apartments is mainly checked through the entrance, kitchen, master bedroom, pooja space, toilets, balcony and centre of the flat. Traditional Vastu usually prefers a north, east or north-east entrance. The kitchen is placed in the south-east or north-west, while the master bedroom is kept in the south-west. A pooja area is preferred in the north-east. Toilets are generally kept away from the north-east and centre.

No apartment will match every Vastu rule. Buyers should first check the unit’s legal approval, room size, natural light, airflow, water supply and build quality. Vastu is a traditional belief system, not a scientific guarantee. Buyers can use it as a personal selection filter. A well-planned flat with one small Vastu difference may be better than a dark or poorly planned “Vastu-compliant” home.

Apartment Vastu Direction Guide

Part of the flat Common Vastu preference
Main entrance North, east or north-east
Living room North, east or north-east
Kitchen South-east; north-west as an option
Master bedroom South-west
Children’s bedroom West or north-west
Guest bedroom North-west
Pooja space North-east
Toilets West or north-west
Balcony and large windows North or east
Centre of the flat Open, light and free from heavy items

These are broad Vastu preferences. The exact result depends on where each room falls within the full flat plan. The direction of one door alone does not decide the Vastu of the whole home.

How to Check the Facing Direction of a Flat

Use a compass-marked floor plan or a reliable compass app. Stand inside the flat and face the main door. The direction you face while walking out is commonly treated as the facing direction. Check it away from lifts, metal doors and electrical panels because they can disturb a phone compass.

The main door and balcony may face different sides. An east-facing flat can have a west-facing balcony and bedrooms. This changes its sunlight and heat even though the entrance is in the east. Ask the builder for the north direction on the exact unit plan.

Do not check only the tower direction. One tower can contain north-, south-, east- and west-facing units. Confirm the flat number, floor, entrance and balcony before booking.

Main Entrance Vastu for Apartments

The main entrance is given high importance in Vastu. North, east and north-east entrances are widely preferred. West-facing entrances are also accepted in many plans when the door sits in a suitable part of the western wall.

Traditional Vastu often advises buyers to avoid a door placed in the exact south-west corner. It also prefers a clean and bright entrance without a toilet directly facing it. The door should open fully without hitting a shoe rack or another object.

A preferred direction does not guarantee a good entrance. Check privacy, lift noise, corridor width, fire-exit access and the distance from the waste room. These points affect daily life more than a direction label.

Kitchen Vastu in a Flat

The south-east is the first choice for a kitchen under Vastu because it is linked with the fire element. The north-west is commonly used as the second option. Many buyers also prefer a stove position that allows the person cooking to face east.

The kitchen should have good daylight, ventilation and a proper exhaust outlet. Check the distance between the stove and sink. Apartment layouts have fixed plumbing and walls, so major changes may not be safe. Never remove a structural wall to correct the kitchen direction.

Bedroom Vastu for Apartments

The south-west is the common Vastu choice for the master bedroom. A west or north-west room can work for children or guests. Vastu advice often suggests placing the bed so the head points south or east while sleeping.

Practical checks remain important. Look for privacy, wardrobe space, bathroom ventilation and noise from lifts or roads. A room with good airflow and less heat may offer better sleep than one chosen only for direction.

Pooja Room and the Centre of the Flat

The north-east is the usual choice for a pooja room or prayer shelf. A separate room is not needed in a compact apartment. Vastu calls the centre of the home the Brahmasthan and often keeps it open. In a flat, this area may be part of the living room, dining space or passage. Keep it clear instead of trying to rebuild the plan.

Toilet and Bathroom Vastu

West and north-west are common Vastu positions for toilets. Buyers following strict Vastu usually avoid toilets in the north-east, south-west or exact centre. They also check whether a toilet shares a wall with the pooja space.

A bathroom still needs working plumbing, slope, waterproofing and ventilation. Check for leakage marks and exhaust openings. Moving a toilet later can damage the slab and affect the flat below.

Do the Floor and Flat Number Affect Vastu?

The same unit plan usually keeps the same Vastu direction on every floor. Height changes sunlight, wind, noise and views, but it does not change the entrance direction. Flat-number choices usually come from numerology, not basic Vastu. Do not let a preferred number replace checks on price, lift access and fire safety.

Natural Light and Ventilation Matter

Good Vastu is often linked with open, bright and clean rooms. These features also improve daily comfort. India’s residential energy code treats daylight, heat control and natural ventilation as key parts of home design.

Check whether air can move between windows on different sides of the flat. Look at afternoon heat in west-facing rooms and shade from nearby towers. Good windows and airflow can reduce the need for lights, fans and air-conditioning.

Vastu Checks for Brigade Granada Apartments

Buyers considering Brigade Granada should wait for the final RERA-approved plans before judging unit Vastu. The project is still upcoming, so early plans may not confirm every tower, entrance or balcony direction. Ask for a north-marked plan of the exact unit, not only a sample floor plan.

Compare the main door, kitchen, master bedroom, toilets and balcony. Also check tower gaps, views, sunlight and preferred-location charges. A claim such as “100% Vastu-compliant” should match the final sanctioned plan. Do not choose a unit only from an EOI sheet.

Home Buyer Checklist

Confirm the facing direction, unit number and north-marked floor plan. Review the RERA plan, carpet area and structural walls. Check the entrance, kitchen, bedrooms, toilets, balcony and pooja space. Then study daylight, cross-ventilation, western heat, lift noise and privacy. If Vastu matters to your family, complete this review before paying a non-refundable booking amount.
